Values

The charity currently has the following registered objects,

  1. to promote the benefits of the inhabitants of Saltburn by the Sea and the neighbourhood (hereinafter called ‘area of benefit’) without distinction of sex or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating with the local authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupations with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants and to encourage interests in the arts and artistic activity in the area.
  2. to promote, maintain, improve and advance education by the encouragement of the arts, including the arts of drama, mime, singing and music.
  3. to maintain and manage, or to co-operate with any local statutory authority in the maintenance and management of the Community and Arts Centre (previously known as the ‘Community Centre’ and hereinafter called the ‘Centre’) for activities promoted by the Association and its constituent bodies in the furtherance of the above objects.

As part of the Board’s consideration of the project and during the discussions concerning the adoption of the Charity Commission’s model Memorandum and Articles of Association, it has been decided that the precise wording of the objects of the charity will be altered.

The exact refinement of the wording is currently being examined by the governance sub-committee, however, it will include more precisely definition of ‘the neighbourhood’, in section one, to reflect the position of Saltburn as the gateway town to East Cleveland. These changes will be implemented by the end of October.

It is also recognised that subject to a successful CAT bid, object three would have to be amended, so that it would include the entire site at Marske Mill Lane.
