Localism Bill

SCAA strongly supports the following intention expressed in the Localism Bill that was introduced to Parliament last year:

We want to see a radical shift in the balance of power and to decentralise power as far as possible. Localism isn’t simply about giving power back to local government. This Government trusts people to take charge of their lives and we will push power downwards and outwards to the lowest possible level, including individuals, neighbourhoods, professionals and communities as well as local councils and other local institutions.

We also recognise that many of the proposed bill’s aspirations are already embedded in the ethos of RCBC.

Though all six of the Bill’s “actions” are important and relevant to this project we believe that the project will be particularly relevant to the action to Empower Communities to do Things Their Way.

…by creating rights for people to get involved with, and direct the development of, their communities;

We also believe that the level of community partnership demonstrated in this project will constitute a very real example of the Big Society in action.
